Not to Be Taken Lightly
Good Morning Girls! How many of you find yourselves saying things like "I'm tempted to give him a piece of my mind", "I'm tempted to quit", "That cake looks so tempting". You know, we often throw the word tempt around like it's just another word. We forget the seriousness of temptation. The sole (or should I say soul) purpose of temptation is to get us to act in such a manner that takes us away from God. We all know about Eve's tempting, and where it got her. We also know that Jesus went to the wilderness and was tempted by the devil. I doubt any of us will ever experience the temptaion that the Lord went through. For us the temptations are smaller, and more subtle. They are about the "little things". For example, you are tempted by food, and you end up breaking the diet you were so commited to. That alone will not cause a break in your relationship with the Lord. Let's say however, that you continously find yourself being tempted away from the things you have commited to. That gives the devil an open door. Soon he will start whispering things like "Are you realllllly a Christian? If you are, don't you think you would have more self-control? Why doesn't God make things easier for you?" Many small yieldings to temptation can add up to big consequences. We need to take the word tempt more seriously, and fight more aggressively if we are going to protect our relationship with God. That is why we are giving instruction as to how to fight temptation. It says in Matthew 26:14 "Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. for the spirit is willing, but the body is weak."
Love you-
Jen
