Learning Limits
Good Morning Girls! Well, those of you who were in group yesterday will be happy to hear that at 6:46pm, I finished cleaning the laundry room! While I was cleaning I asked the Lord why he had me put that on my list. His response, "to show you that you can". Tuesdays are very busy for me, and by the time I get home around 2:30, I normally don't feel like digging into anything out of the normal daily duties. I had fallen into an unneccessary habit. For the last 5 years, my life has revolved around the needs of my kids. I have learned what I can and can't do in a day. The problem is, my kids are not as needy as they were a year ago, but my rate of "productivity" has remained the same. I need to re-learn my limits. One of my favorite Bill quotes is "The only limits you have, are the ones that exist in your mind.". Or as the Word says "as a man thinks in his heart, so he is.". I am in the process of learning that I can expand my limits, and do more. It's hard to stretch the limits you've comfortably lived by for a long time. There are also times when we need to adjust our limits and learn that we cannot do as much as we could at a previous time. Take Jen K from group. Yesterday when she started talking, I looked around the room, and I could see that every mom in there knows exactly what she is feeling. I think we all had to restrain ourselves from spewing out advice, hugging Jen, and telling her "we've all been there! It won't always be so intense!". She is a new mom, and she is in the process of learning what her new limits are. Reducing limits can be even more frustrating than expanding them. As moms and women, it's hard to limit our activities, and still feel worthwhile. You're sitting there unshowered, with vomit on your sleeve, and dishes in the sink, and someone says to you "it's the most rewarding and important thing you'll ever do." You smile politely, but your mind is thinking "yeah, but I used to be a -----, and people admired me, and I had nice clothes that didn't smell like puke....", even though you are so happy to be exactly where you are, and wouldn't want to change a thing, it's still hard sometimes. Whether you are learning to expand, or reduce your current limits, it is a process. You don't learn them overnite. Some days are easier than others. There are days when you do everything "right" and you still don't accomplish what you set out to do. We will talk about those days tomorrow. If you need some help learning your limits, ask our limitless Father for help. Proverbs 2: 3,6-7 Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest
