Focus on Progress, Not Perfection
Hey Girls! In the past few days we've talked about writing down goals, and learning your limits. If you follow all of the steps and guidelines to a "T" you should succeed daily right? WRONG! No matter how well-planned and realistic your goals are, there will be days when life simply gets in the way. You child gets sick, your husband needs you to do something "right away", the car doesn't start, etc. There are a number of things that can come up that take over your plans. Some are big, some are merely small distractions and interruptions that add up and steal your time. Those days can be hard emotionally, especially if you've built up some momentum towards your goals. At the end of the day, instead of stressing out over what didn't get done, take 5 minutes and focus on 3 things that you did right. Not 3 things that were on your goal sheet, those you have already checked of during the day. I mean 3 things you did right. For example: 1. I didn't lose my temper when Tom asked me to pick up his dry cleaning today even though I had planned to pick it up tomorrow 2. I maintained a positive attitude when I realized I was not going to be able to get in my workout 3. I didn't yell at the kids when the acted up in the grocery store. This will help you see that even when things haven't gone according to your plan, you are still showing signs of growth and progress. Can't think of anything good to write? Don't be so hard on yourself. You can always write down these 2: 1. I didn't QUIT! 2. I'm still here! If you can honestly write those things, you are ahead of 99% of the world! I know we have used this verse a few times in the last 2 weeks, but how could I not use it when talking about focusing on progress? Philippians 3:16 but we must hold on to the progress we have already made!
Focus on Progress, Not Perfection, is in the Body for Life book. I am not taking credit, I am "taking action"!
