'Aint Nothin' but A Flesh Thing
Good Morning Girls! Today's "success tip" from the Word is about discipline. Oh, even typing the word makes me groan a little bit. What is it about the word discipline that is like nails on a chalkboard? I was thinking about discipline yesterday, and I have come to the conclusion, that even though I like the result of discipline, I don't think I will ever like the act of discipline. I love getting up and having my prayer time, writing my blog, and getting ready for my day before the rest of the family. I love how this feels, I love how it affects the rest of my day. However, there is not a day that when my alarm goes of, I don't groan and have this split second of irritation! I really do not like the alarm clock! It has no regard for where I am in my REM cycle, or what kind of dream I am currently having. It doesn't care that it is 2 degrees and dark out, and the rest of the world is probably still in bed. I don't like that at 9:30 at night, I feel like winding down with a little tv show, but know that the alarm will be going off early, and then I will be tired, so instead I read for 20 minutes and go to sleep. Those things bug me. However, since I have been doing this, and ignoring my cry baby flesh, I have had the most awesome last few months! I have had enough "reward", to make it easier to choose discipline, then to choose flesh. That is the key. You need to believe that the outcome, or "reward" will follow your act of discipline. Websters has many definitions of discipline, but the one that I am holding on to is this: training expected to produce a specific character or pattern of behavior, especially training that produces moral or mental improvement. God tells us that we have discipline within us, we just need to exercise it. We need to tell our cry baby flesh to just "shut it", and keep on moving. He even says he will grant us the desires of our heart, so I guess it is even possible that one day when the alarm goes off, I will break into song and thank the alarm for ringing!
