Find Your Pace Car
Good Morning Girls! In preparation for this Saturday's Arise for the Prize run, over the next few days I am going to talk about "Things I've learned in the Race". These are lessons that I've learned while running a race, that are transferable to our Christian walk. Today's lesson is this: find someone a little faster than you, and try to keep up. If you are running with people you know, you can ask them what their time usually is, and chose that way. If you don't know anyone, or you are the fastest in your group, you have to wait until the race starts, and in the first minute or so, determine who is going to be a good one to set your pace to. You cannot randomly pick someone before the race starts, based on appearance, as people will surprise you. Some people have the full on running gear and the lean athletic body, but don't have the speed to go with it. Other people, dressed in sweats, appearing out of shape, have passed me by! Start running, when you feel comfortable, look ahead and find your person. The same is true in your Christian walk. When I was new to the "race", I didn't know much. All of my friends were just like me. I needed to surround myself with other people that had the same goal, the same finish line. I sought out people who were ahead of me, and tried to keep up. I learned here also, that you cannot judge by "appearance". I met some religious people that had the "full on gear", but no fruit to back it up. I quickly learned to run away from them, and continue to look for my own "pace cars". The Lord brought a few into my life to get me started, and then one day, I hit the Boston Marathon of like-minded race runners. That's right, HomeMakers! When I was new to HomeMakers, I would sit at my table and look around. I would see people who had what I wanted, and I would seek them out as friends. I would look to those who had joy, who had peace, who had confidence, who had great hair! I would get to know them, and I would put into practice for myself their "training techniques". In running, you chose someone faster, because they help you run faster. Guess what, when they figure out they are your pace car, they will run a little faster themselves. The same is true in our Godly friendships. Even if one starts out ahead in the race, you will both make each other run a little faster. Take a minute today and think about the "pace cars" God has put in your life!
