Use It Or Lose It
Well, race day is here! What a great day for a run! When I turned in my race registration 2 weeks ago, I envisioned a bright sunny morning hanging out with some of my Girls, and having a few laughs. I just went to weather.com and it says that at race time today it will be very windy and 42, but it will feel like 33. Not quite what I had in mind! So now, my new plan is this: go to a cold windy race, with some of my Girls, and have a few laughs. Race lesson #6 this week is this: the only thing you have control over is yourself! The course may be hilly. There may be a bunch of rude people in your way. It may be windy, rainy, snowy, of extremely humid (done them all). No matter how much you train, there are a number of external factors that can change the game. It is the same with life. We can do everything right, but we are still going to have wind, rain, snow, and hills! God says in His Word that he has given us self-control. He wouldn't have given it to us if He didn't believe it was important for us to have. When I look back at some of the mistakes I've made, they all go back to one root- lack of self- control. Not controlling my actions, my mouth, my attitude, etc. If we only have control over one thing, I think we should exercise that control for dear life! In fact God says in His Word that without self-control we will die!
