Have We Really Changed Much?
Good Morning Girls! A couple of years ago I read the chronological one year Bible. I didn't realize when I started that I would not get to the New Testament until August! Let me tell you, there were days when I could hardly wait for August! Now don't get me wrong, the Old Testament is awesome, and exciting to read. It is just different from the New, and I was excited to get to the New. There were so many times in the Old that I would read and think to myself "what a bunch of whineball losers. you would think they would get it right one of these days. I can't believe they just walked away again, after God, just rescued them again. I can hardly take these pagan babies". Then, one day, while I was reading and laughing at the whineballs, I realized "Jen, your not that different. You have your own Exodus to work through" Okay, so I say "I realized", when actually it may have been the Lord who brought it to my attention, but we won't get bogged down with the details here. Once I was able to replace some of the language differences, I was able to see that I still worshiped some "idols", I would seek the Lord mainly when I needed help, and I kept running back to my old ways, even though they had proven unsuccessful many times in the past. After that revelation, I read the Old Testament with new eyes. Instead of sitting back and simply reading, I would think about how my life resembled theirs, and how I could learn from them. I wanted to get out of the Wilderness a lot faster than they did! I wanted my Promised Land! I've been reading the story of David to Charley at night, and it has lit my fire for the Old Testament again. Over the next few days I'll share with you some of the ways my life is/was like the Old Testament.
Psalm 102:18 Let this be recorded for future generations, so that a people not yet born will praise the Lord!
