Are you Tormenting Him?
Good Morning Girls! This weekend Charley and I watched an old movie version of Samson and Delilah. I love watching Bible stories because it helps to really get a feel for what it was like. Well, I've got to tell you, as strong as Samson was, he would sure cave in when it came to a beautiful woman! I read the story last night, because there were of course, some discrepancies in the movie, and I wanted to get my facts straight. There is a lot to learn in the story of Samson. Today, we aren't going to look at Samson, as much as the women who tormented him. It seems like Samson had a couple weaknesses when it came to women. First of all, he was often ruled by his pants, (and that's all I've got to say about that) and secondly, he could not handle nagging. His first wife started nagging him even before her wedding celebration was over! It says she cried whenever she was with him, and kept it up until he finally told her the answer because she was tormenting him with her nagging. Well, not only did this nagging lead to embarrassment for Samson, it ultimately lead to the death of the first wife! She was burned to death by the very people that talked her into nagging at her husband! Then we meet Delilah. She betrays Samson for about 5500 pieces of silver. It says in Judges 16:16 that she tormented him with her nagging day after day until he was sick to death of it. It doesn't say what happened to her after that, which in itself shows that she was only used as a tool in Samson's defeat, and had no other influence after that. In fact she was probably known as the "woman who tricked her husband for silver". Good luck getting a date after that news spreads through the town. I also believe that when she went "shopping" with her bag of silver, it wasn't nearly as enjoyable as she thought it would be. When she realized what she had done to the man who truly loved her, I believe her heart was filled with regret. Sure, nagging gets the job done sometimes, but it often leads to death in the relationship. Has your spouse ever done a task with a cheerful disposition when you've nagged him into it? If yes, please e-mail me the story so I may post it! I believe todays Word applies to both the giver, and receiver of kind words. Try this route next time you need your hubby to help you!
