Making Friends With Discipline
Good Morning Girls! It feels great to be back! I had an awesome vacation, but I can only take so much sloth-like behavior and I'm ready for structure again. It's funny because I used to always say I hated schedules and routines, but I am learning more and more each day how much better I function with them in place. The key is to make sure they are realistic and flexible (a great topic for another day). I used to fight structure because following a schedule requires discipline. As you may remember, discipline was not a strength of mine in the past. To me the definition of discipline was: the taking away of fun, life, freedom, and all that is good. If discipline was bad, can you imagine how I felt about self-discipline? It wasn't an option. As many of you know from my testimony, my lack of self-discipline got me nowhere, fast. Even after I was born again, I struggled with discipline. Sure, there have been times when I have been able to focus my attention on something that I have felt passionate about for a short amount of time, but I have never been able to sustain it. Over the last year, I have developed a new relationship with discipline, including self-discipline. The definition of discipline I am talking about is not one of punishment (though it sometimes feels like it). The definition of discipline by Websters that I am referring to is: Training expected to produce a specific character or pattern of behavior, especially training that produces moral or mental improvement I have found that if I focus on the intent of discipline, rather than the word itself, it is actually quite motivating. Who wouldn't want to improve themselves morally or mentally(okay, I can think of a list of people, but we won't go there). My prayer for you all this week is that you will "make friends" with discipline, and be able to see Gods intent when placing it on us.
Hebrews 12:10 For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God's discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness
Love you all
