The Hardest Muscle To Train

Good Morning Girls!  I am quick witted.  I have a degree in Psychology.  My career background is sales.  I also seem to be missing the internal filter that most people have.  You know, the filter that prevents your mouth from saying all of the things that pop into your head.  What does all of that mean?  Well, for those of you who have known me for a long time, it means you can never be quite sure what will come out of my mouth.  You see, the previous listed characteristics make for a dangerous combination.  Add to that bitterness, sarcasm and a margarita or two, and my tongue should have been registered as a lethal weapon, able to tear any man down in one sentence.  In the book of James he talks about how a horse is lead by a small bit in its mouth, and a huge ship is steered by a tiny rudder.  I have found it to be true that my tongue also directs the path of my life.  In the past I used my words to make others laugh (at anyone's expense), or to put those who hurt me in their place.  After I was born again, it quickly became clear that I could not praise Jesus one minute,  drop an f-bomb the next, and make the Lord happy.  I asked the Holy Spirit to help me with my words.  I asked for the filter that everyone else had.  I asked for wisdom in my speech.  After I asked the Holy Spirit for help, I would get that sinking, kicked in the gut feeling whenever I said something that was hurtful or profane.  It isn't always easy.  There are times when my flesh cries out for verbal vengeance, but I have since learned that the pay off is not what it used to be.  Instead of feeling satisfied, I now feel sick and disappointed in myself when my words are hurtful.  I have learned over the last couple of years that my quick wit, charisma, and ability to read others, are gifts from the Lord, and are to be used for His glory.  The same qualities that "set my whole life on fire" as James says, are now used to encourage and lead others.  I still have to choose my words carefully, and I seem to need a lot of replacement filters, but each day I purpose to use my mouth for blessing and not cursing.  It says in James 3:2 that if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect.......sounds good me!

James 3:2 Indeed, we all make many mistakes.  For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could control ourselves in every way

Love you all (no need to filter that!)
Jen
