Patient Endurance
Good Morning Girls! Every morning I drag myself out of bed, put on my workout clothes, make the coffee, write my blog, and workout. I don't always feel like doing it, but I do. Sometimes I look in the mirror and wonder if my abs will ever quit playing hide and seek on me. It used to frustrate and discourage me. It would sometimes make me want to skip a workout and make some pancakes instead. It doesn't anymore. It doesn't because my motive has changed. I now see my morning workout as my training ground. The greater purpose of it is for the discipline, not weight loss. It is because if I can force my flesh daily to push past it's comfort level, I am much more prepared when someone else imposes stress on me. It is the act of pushing through that prepares me for the rest of the day. It teaches me patience. It teaches me endurance. It teaches me to prioritize. In a world of instant gratification these are qualities that are not often promoted. The world offers quick fixes for just about everything. Pop a pill, schedule a surgery, have a drink, put it on a credit card, the list goes on. The problem with this lifestyle is that sooner or later, you will be faced with a situation that does not come with a quick fix. What will you do then? Will you go buy yourself a little faith? Will you take a patience pill? Will you have a little endurance shot into your eyebrows? When the problem comes, it is too late to develop the qualities you need to have to get through a situation that is truly out of your control. You need to have those qualities in place, practicing them daily on the little things, in order to use them when the big things come your way. Sure, I could have a tummy tuck, and it would not make me any less spiritual, but let me tell you, the lessons I have learned along the way by getting up every day, and pushing through, have taught me more about myself than any man made abs ever could. Patient endurance, another side effect of discipline.....I think I'm starting to like it!
