Unintended Influence
Good Morning Girls! Yesterday I told you about a tv show that had become a much too important part of my life. Today, I want to tell you all how it started. It started with a very casually comment by someone at church. This person brought up the show and said how she absolutely loved it. It was already in the second or maybe even the third season, and I had never watched it. I had heard about it, but never watched it. I didn't watch it because the commercials alone for it made it seem a little too much of everything I try to avoid. However, when this particular person said she loved it, I was surprised. This women seemed even more conservative than me. She didn't seem like the kind of person who would watch something that was full of things we need not meditate on. I thought "if she watches it, it must be good. Maybe it's not as sleazy as I thought". I asked her a little about it, and she assured me, it was sooooooo good, and if I was going to watch it, I really had to go back and watch it from the beginning. So I did. I rented the dvd's and got caught up to the season that was on tv. Now, do I blame this women for getting me involved in the show? Absolutely not! If my heart wasn't somewhat looking for a distraction, I would've ignored the comment, and kept about my business. I know this because there have been other times in recent years that people are talking about tv shows, and I simply say "looks a little too raunchy for me", and never give it a second thought. This women's comment was harmless. It was not like when someone intentionally tries to lead you down the wrong path. That what makes it so much more powerful! We are influenced daily by people we know and don't know. We also influence others without even knowing, or intending to. I think the Lord started dealing with this women's heart as well. One day at church she said "If they keep the show going like it is, I am going to stop watching it. It is getting too sleazy." I just smiled and said "I already quit". Who knows? Maybe the influence went both ways on that one!
3 John 1:11 Dear friend, don't let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove they are God's children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.
Love you all-
