Dealing Profitably With Your Time

Good Morning Girls!  If you were to call my mom this morning and ask her how she is, her response would be something to this effect: "well, I just got done paying bills, and then I have to get ready for my water aerobics, and then I have to run errands, and then I have to bring some clothes to church , and then I have to finish my 10,000 page book for book study tonight, and then and then and then".  Yep, she's busy.  As long as I can remember, she's been busy.  Busy.  Busy.  Busy. She wants us to know just how busy she is.  Does that make her a Proverbs 31 woman?  Does being busy, never taking a break, make any of us Proverbs 31 women?  There are many women who think so.  They run around like Martha (from the bible or Ms. Stewart) thinking that if everything in their little world is perfectly matched, they have somehow succeeded in life.  When I ask people how they are doing, and their response is "I'm so busy", I want to say "Great....but are you productive?"  There's a difference you know.  You can run around all day, never taking a break and still somehow accomplish nothing.  Or, you cake make profitable use of your time.  As women, we often fall into the trap of believing that if we are not in constant motion, we are somehow not doing our job.  We measure our worth in how much we've accomplished.  Our life is one long to do list day after day.  Not only does this suck the life out of us, it also makes our loved ones feel like another task on our list.  Laundry-check.  Supper-check.  Read kids book-check.  Have sex with husband-check.  We measure our day by the number of checkmarks on our list.  Not to burst anyones bubble here, but the to do list will never be done.  There will always be more laundry.  There will always be a mess somewhere in the house.  There will always be a closet to straighten, and errand to run, or a phone call to return.  Besides, you know as well as I do that if by some great miracle your to do list was completely done, you'd simply call the church or school and volunteer to help in some area.  After all, a women who's not in over her head is no women at all right? WRONG!   The sooner we all realize that busier is not better, the happier we and everyone we interact with will be!  So girls, use your time profitably, don't simply burn at both ends until you are burnt out.  And if your lamp burns late in the night, let it be because you are enjoying having sex with your husband and not waiting for it to be over so you can jump up and cross it off your to do list!

Proverbs 31:18 She makes sure her dealings are profitable; her lamp burns late into the night

Love you all-
Jen
