What Are You Clothed With?
Good Morning Girls! How do you carry yourself? When you walk by a stranger, do you look away, or do you look them in the eye? Do you ever smile and say hi to a total stranger? When you enter a room of people you do not know, do you sit in the back, trying to blend in with the decorative trees? Do you fumble through your purse pretending to be busy so no one feels sorry for you? Have you ever gone to a movie or out to eat alone? (no, Starbucks does not count). Do you spend most of your day with your head up, or down? How you carry yourself says a lot about how you feel about yourself. It also reveals how much you really understand just who you are. The other day I walked into church and my friend waved me over and said "Jen, I just watched you walk in and I am impressed. You look so confident. You simply walk in like "Here I am, we can start now"" I laughed and said "Why shouldn't I be confident? I am a Princess. My daddy is the King of kings". We both laughed and she said "You're right. That's true. It's just that most people just don't treat themselves that way". Now listen. There is a difference between being confident, and being stuck up. I do not enter a room thinking "Hello you lowly citizens. I have arrived. Please bow low before me." No. You see, I see all of you the same as I see myself, as fellow Prince and Princess' of the King.....and it is time for all of us to act as such. I don't care if you are in designer jeans or sweatpants, you can carry yourself with strength and dignity. If you look someone in the eye when you speak, and hold their attention by letting them know they are receiving your full attention, they will never remember what you were wearing. They will remember the fact that you looked them in the eye. People are drawn to confident people. It is much easier to witness to someone who approaches you rather than you having to chase someone down. And don't let the word dignity trip you up. Websters simply defines it as: inherent nobility and worth (which we all have as children of God) poise and self-respect. It doesn't say you have to be a stuffed shirt, with your nose in the air, unable to have fun. Anyone who knows me knows that I can be silly and wild and make fun of my mistakes. If you think that is contrary to having dignity, you need to change your ideas. Clothing yourself with strength and dignity simply means recognizing who you are in Christ, and using that blessed position to influence others. So girls, go put on your heavenly tiaras and influence the world....one errand at a time!
