Day 17 Love Promotes Intimacy
Good Morning Girls! Yesterday we were to pray for our husbands in 3 specific areas. This one was an easy one for me. Three years ago I read and followed the Power of The Praying Wife, and I haven't stopped since. I used to get irritated with Tom because I didn't think he sought the Lord enough. I never saw him read his bible, I never hear him pray (other than with the family), he is not involved with church other than attending. Then one day the Lord set me straight in the loving way He does. On my way home from HomeMakers He softly spoke "how nice is it that you get to go to HomeMakers every Tuesday and be encouraged and stirred up while Tom is at work". At that moment I realized that by being a stay at home mom I was awarded the luxury of having time to be in the Word, time to pray while doing my work around the house, time to serve in the church. I remembered what it was like to try to do those things when I worked full time. It is hard! The Lord also reminded me that Tom is a private person. I don't know what he does during his drive time, but i do know when I get in his car it is either Christian music, the theme from Rocky, or a business management cd playing. Besides, the Lord asked "who are you to judge the heart of this man......you do your part.....let him do his.....I will do mine." Now let me tell you girls, that was a powerful moment for me. That was his way of saying, "why look at the speck in your husbands eye when you have this big stinkin' log in your own eye!" (ok, that is definitely jen translation) From that moment on I decided that I do not know what his prayer life is like, and it is not my business. I will pray for him, and make sure he is covered! So every morning I cover him in prayer. I pray that he seeks the Lord in his business decisions. I pray that the Lord speaks to him if he is straying away from God's plan for his life. I pray for his health, his body, his mind, his spirit. I pray the Pauline prayers over him. I confess that he is anointed to be a provider to a level the world is unfamiliar with all to the glory of God! I pray these things for him, and then I tend to the log in my eye....chipping away at it piece by piece! If you are not sure how to pray for your husband, I recommend the Power of the Praying Wife, it will teach you and get you in a habit that is life changing for both you and your spouse.
Assignment:
Determine to guard your mate's secrets (unless they are dangerous to them or to you) and to pray for them. Talk with your spouse, and resolve to demonstrate love in spite of these issues. Really listen to them when they share personal thoughts and struggles with you. Make them feel safe.
Questions:
How much of an effort is it for you to hold back from saying something, critical or otherwise? What have you learned about your spouse today, simply from listening?
Proverbs 17:9 He who covers an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.
