Your Thinking Assignment
Good Morning Girls! On Monday I encouraged you not to think about the things, specifically the foods, you cannot have. You see, whatever we focus our thoughts on, whatever we give our mind attention to, we will go after. It will stick with us until we either fulfill the thought or desire, or replace it with another. It's kind of like when you get a song stuck in your head. You keep singing it over and over again, seemingly without consciously thinking about it, until you can distract yourself and replace it with something else (or pass it on to someone else). Sometimes I hear the song and and it sticks with me. Other times I find myself singing a random song and I have to ask those around me "was this song just playing?" I have no idea how it popped in my head. Especially if it is an old song from my high school or college days. It's funny how some songs pop into my head and I still know all the words- even though I have not listened to them for years! "Where did that come from?" I find myself wondering.
Today I want you to think about yourself. That's right, yourself. Not as in being selfish and only thinking about yourself. But more like taking a look at how you think about yourself. What kind of thoughts do you have about you? How do you talk to yourself? What are the things you say to yourself? What do you feel about yourself?
You know the things we say to ourselves are much more critical than the things we would ever say to anyone. Take a look at the inner thoughts you have about yourself today and when you hear a negative one, picture yourself saying that out loud to one of your friends. There is no way you would say some of the hurtful things to others that you say and think to yourself, about yourself. If a friend called you and was frustrated because she just ate a 1/2 a pan of brownies while her kids were napping would you respond with "of course you did Susie. You always do that. Just yesterday you said you were going to eat better and look, you didn't even make it halfway through the day. Why do you even bother trying anymore? You are never going to change. You have failed a million times already. Why don't you just accept the fact that you will never change. You will always be the fat girl." Can you imagine saying that to someone?! But answer honestly now.....how close does that sound to the way you talk to yourself?
Just like the songs that randomly pop in our heads, our mind is bombarded with random thoughts all day. Some of these negative thoughts towards ourselves were "played" for us as we grew up, and have stuck with us. Others are thoughts we picked up along the way and play, like broken records, over and over again. Some are new ones played by the enemy of our faith in order to keep us down. Just like the songs, we have to think on something else to get it out of our head.
So how are you going to think about yourself? Are you going to be a helpless victim of circumstance? Are you going to think about your past mistakes and failures? Are you going to think about all the things you are not? All the things you don't have? No! It's time to think about yourself the way God thinks about you. Think of yourself as a conqueror. A finisher. A warrior! Think about the desires in your heart. Think about the woman you want to be. Think about the goals you have written down (I hope you have written them down). Think about yourself as the woman you want to be.....even if you are not quite her yet. Think of yourself as the fit healthy girl who is in control or her life. Think or yourself as the runner, the weight lifter, the softball player, whatever it is you desire. Think of yourself now as if you already were her.....because the truth is, YOU ARE! You just have to find her.
The more you tell yourself these things, the more you think victoriously about yourself, the the more you will find your actions lining up with your thoughts. When I feel fat and bloated....I eat like a fat bloated girl. When I feel fit and healthy.....I eat like a fit and healthy girl. The more I think about the girl I want to be.....the more I become her!
Proverbs 23:7 For as she thinks in her heart, so is she
