The Words of the godly

Good Morning Girls!  Let's review the verse that tells us some of the things we are to pursue in life.  It is 1 Timothy 6:11 But you Girls, are women of God; so run from all evil things.  Pursue righteousness and a godly life........
I have friend that on more than one occasion has referred to me as a godly woman.  Every time she says that it sort of stops me in my tracks.  I think "godly woman....what exactly does that mean?".  Instead of seeking the definition of being "godly", I would simply dismiss it and continue with my day.  I figured it was kind of a  Christian catch all phrase for someone who loved the Lord and tried to do the right thing.
When I started seeking the things the Lord would have me pursue, the words "godly life" brought to remembrance the times my friend has called me godly.  I decided to take the time to learn what being a godly woman really meant- according to the Word of God.  I looked up the scriptures that talked about the godly.  Let me share a few with you:
Proverbs 10:11 The words of the godly are a life giving fountain
Proverbs 11:20  The words of the godly are like sterling silver
Proverbs 11:21  The words of the godly encourage many
Do you notice anything here?  One of the characteristics that separates the godly from the world is their words.  The words of the godly give life, are precious, and encourage others.  They speak blessing and victory, not defeat and doubt.  They lift up those around them.  They share with others the living water of Jesus.  They share the Good News of grace and forgiveness.  They share personal testimonies of God's love in their lives.
At times it seems hard to speak words of victory with confidence and conviction, especially in the midst of trial.  It is so much easier to speak what we see than to speak what we believe.  However, our words carry power and strength.  Our words are a reflection of our faith.  Our words, once spoken, cannot be taken back.  They do have the power to bring blessing or cursing- whether it is in our lives, or in the lives of those around us.  Sure we don't get it right all the time, but if we purpose to choose our words carefully,  and be slow to speak, we will see the difference our  words make.
If you tend to let your words get away from you (okay what I want to say is if you "run at the mouth", but that sounded harsh), meditate on todays verse.  When you do mess up (your human....you will), remember you are forgiven by God because of the shed blood of Jesus (it's the people you speak to that aren't always as forgiving).  When you start pursuing words of life and blessing- you will find peace in the midst of any trial!

Proverbs 15:28  The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking

Love you all (and that's not simply words being thrown around)
