The Pursuit of godly Living
Good Morning Girls! Yesterday we started looking at what it truly means to be a godly woman, or to live a godly life. We took a look at the words of godly women and discovered that the words of the godly are a life giving fountain, precious like sterling silver, and an encouragement to many.
Today I would like to go through a few more characteristics of the godly that I learned in my study. They really don't require a lot of explanation, so we will cover a few of them. I thought you may be curious like I was whenever I heard someone refer to the godly. Remember, we are looking at these characteristics as we are pursuing the things the Word says we are to pursue. The godly life is referred to in 1 Timothy 6:11 where we are told to pursue righteousness and then a godly life. You know, something just occurred to me. I wonder if the list that Paul gives in this verse is one where you have to start with the first one, and work your way through. I mean, it makes sense- in order to live, or have the desire to live, a godly life you first have to believe you have right standing with God. I know in 2 Peter, Peter gives a list that is like that. Hmmmm, now I am just thinking out loud. I am going to put that idea in the back of my mind as we continue.
So here is some more on the godly:
Psalm 37:21b the godly are generous givers. I believe this includes your time, resources, gifts and talents. It is not just referring to your money.
Proverbs 11:5 the godly are directed by honesty
Proverbs 13:5 the godly hate lies
Proverbs 20:7 the godly walk with integrity
And to all my Girls who are finding some gray hair and are desperately trying to cover it up- please know this important truth:
Proverbs 16:31 Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained by living a godly life!
So next time you look in the mirror and freak out, simply say thank you Lord for my glory crown! I am glad that my life has pleased you enough to bless me with this crown......now please bless me with the finances to cover it up as I do not wish to make others jealous of my crown! In Jesus' name, Amen!
Today's list contains some of the qualities that come easier for us as women. I am confident you are not a bunch of lying, conniving, selfish women. I also know a lot of you are sportin' your gray crown of glory already (I promise, I will not call you out by name). On Monday we will continue with some of the qualities that don't always come quite as easily. Have a blessed weekend!
Proverbs 15:9 The Lord detests the way of the wicked, but he loves those who pursue godliness
Love you all-
Jen
