Perfect Schmerfect

Hey Girls!  Yesterday I told you that I often procrastinate because I don't know where to start.  I often get caught up in "perfection" mode.

I also struggle with an all or nothing mentality (which is great when we are talking about good habits......not so great when talking about others!).

If I cannot do things exactly like I think they should be done, or if I am not convinced that the plan I am about to embark on will produce the results I am looking for I often quit before I even start.  In my search to do the perfect thing, I do nothing.

Nothing.

I may not be a rocket scientist, but I am pretty sure that doing nothing will not get me any closer to any of my goals.  I am more than pretty sure.  I am definitely sure.  I am definitely sure because I have gone the "nothing" route for a while now...and guess what?  I have gone nowhere.  I am no more closer to the Girl I want to be since the day I quit doing the things I know to do.

Doing nothing equals getting nowhere.

Once again I am blowing your mind with profound revelation.......

Do what you can today.  Don't think about what you are going to do tomorrow.  Sure, it's great to have a plan of action and have it all figured out.  If you are at that place where you can map out your week that is awesome!  But I'm not talking to you right now.  I am talking to the Girls who are stuck trying to come up with the perfect plan.....and they are so stuck in their search that yet another day has gone by and they have done nothing.

I'm not just talking about diet and exercise here.  I am talking about any change you want in your life.  You want a better marriage....do something.....start somewhere.  Read a book.  Pray.  Write your hubby a love letter.  DO something...anything....anything different than what you have done day after day that has gotten you nowhere.

I said it yesterday, and I will say it again today.  I believe sometimes we need to take that first step in faith without a clear plan and trust that the Lord will lead us.  You write a love letter and your hubby thinks its dumb.....well bless your heart for trying, at least you did something.  You eliminate sugar from your diet and you don't lose a pound....well bless your heart I bet you are at least thinking more clearly.  You tried to work out today and only lasted 5 minutes......bless your heart I bet tomorrow you will do six!

Girls, it's time to throw perfect out the window.....and this is coming from the President of the local chapter of the Perfectionist Girls of America Foundation!  I am turning in my crown.  I am doing today what I can and believing tomorrow I will be a little better because of it.  I trust the Lord will lead me each day and eventually I will have a clear sense of direction.  It may not sound like much, but it's more than I had 2 days ago!

Psalm 119:96 Even perfection has its limits, but your commands have no limit

Love, grace, and Real Life to you all-

Jen
